Kinomatics Australian Feature Filmmakers Explorer
Project details
The Kinomatics Australian Feature Filmmakers Explorer (KAFFE) is a web app for interactively exploring fifty years of Australian film data.
Our goal with KAFFE is to give people of all levels of technical skill a way of exploring the data we curated on Australian cinema for the KAFPD project.
Users can search for filmmakers to find information on how many times they appear in the KAFPD, how central they are in the overall collaboration network, and who their most frequent collaborators are, among other things.
By adding a second person to the search, users can discover the shortest path between the two filmmakers – similar to the well-known “six degrees of Kevin Bacon” game.
KAFFE is built with Shiny, an open source framework for turning data into web apps. The app was developed by Sophie Harvey, Pete Jones and Deb Verhoeven, and our deployment is administered by Michael Ward at the University of Alberta.
