The Centre for Analysis of Relational Data (CARD) is a University of Alberta-based research collaboratory focusing on using network analysis to combine questions of social justice and cultural and creative production. The lab provides an active and thriving research environment for its participants to get involved with, including post-docs, doctoral candidates and grad students.

The CARD lab has undertaken the following major projects:

  • Leading by the Nodes: An in-depth survey paper of existing studies that use network analysis to study film industries.
  • The Kinomatics Australian Film Production Dataset (KAFPD): An unprecedented curated dataset describing Australian films released between 1975 and 2022 and the people that filled ten key creative roles on those films. This dataset – – is accompanied by an open access peer-reviewed data paper.
  • The Kinomatics Australian Feature Filmmaker Explorer (KAFFE): An interactive web app for exploring the KAFPD and the collaboration networks embedded within it.
